10 000 FC Luzern fans met up to celebrate their football team’s triumph in regaining the “Cup” for the first time in 29 years. They won 3 to 1 against St Gallen. The police looked on without intervening, not wanting to spoil the fun. Fireworks and firecrackers were let out late into the night and many are probably walking around with a hangover this morning.

This is the second big sport triumph for central Switzerland as the EV Zug ice hockey team won the Swiss ice hockey championship for the first time in 23 years.

Switzerland is also very pleased with its third place at the Eurovision song contest this weekend, coming in just behind France and Italy.

Four tourists from central Switzerland were arrested and fined upon arrival in the Tessin for refusing to wear masks on the train. Which probably was not how they had intended on spending their long weekend.

Traffic through the Gotthard tunnel was made particularly difficult on Monday when a car caught fire in the tunnel around noon forcing it to be shut down and adding to the usual traffic jam.

If you didn’t manage to get away, there is another long weekend coming up for Catholic cantons. That’s Corpus Christi on Thursday June 3rd, meaning lots of people will be taking the Friday off too.

It seems as if President Biden and Putin will be having their first meeting in Switzerland according to the Tages Anzeiger. It is unclear when although Geneva seems to be the chosen town.

It’s going to be a mixed bag weatherwise this week, but we can hope for a bit more sun than last week.
