The government made it clear yesterday there will be no quick end to the lockdown. This because cases with the new variants of the virus are growing despite the current measures in place. Only when enough people will be vaccinated can we hope for a return to normality, and this is where the problem lies. The canton of Lucerne simply hasn’t received enough vaccines to keep on schedule and the delays to the vaccination programme keep on growing. To date 13 000 care home residents have been vaccinated as well as 5500 people in the over 75 group (17 000 have signed up to get he vaccine). The next delivery is planned for next week with 11800 Moderna vaccines, a further 14 000 as well as 13500 Pfizer vaccines will be delivered mid-March, meaning that hopefully the over 75 category will have received both doses sometime in April. Currently the over 65s can hope to be vaccinated sometime in May/June, the rest of the population will follow afterwards.
One of the more controversial rulings made yesterday was for all restaurants to remain closed. This will have been a blow to the restaurants in ski resorts which had reopened their terraces. Several cantons including Uri, Obwalden and Nidwalden are currently contemplating continuing to keep the terraces open despite the order.
Meanwhile the Jerusalem dance challenge continues with the zoo keepers at the Zurich zoo doing their own routine (with animals). Maybe it’s their spring dance hoping to attract lots of visitors as of Monday?
