Znüni News – Wednesday August 22

Grey Geese are here to stay but now that their numbers are growing they are becoming more and more of a pest. The owners of the Lido in particular are hearing from bathers complaining about the geese being too close, pooping close to them and being a general nuisance. One solution put forward would be to shoot at them using blanks, but grey geese are a protected species so there is no way that they can be unduly stressed or harmed. So we will have to put up with them!

Rats have been making a comeback to Lucerne too. The city puts down rat poison to kill them and recently two dead rats were found floating at the Mühleplatz. The advice is to not touch the animals dead or alive and to wash your hands thoroughly if you have been touching things near to where they are.

The direct train from Luzern to the Zurich airport may not be running as of December but the Lucerne bus company (VBL) is offering direct bus routes to the Zürich airport (early morning and late at night). From September 2 to October 14 they are also offering a new early bus from Luzern to Basel Airport (leaving at 3.10 a.m. and arriving at 4.30 a.m.) and returning at 23.30. The ticket costs CHF 49.-, if this proves successful the service could become permanent. Details can be found here: Flugbus.ch
