Must do better. The canton of Lucerne currently is in the bottom 4 cantons when it comes to vaccination efficiency, they blame this on lack of vaccines. Note that back in January they gave vaccines to other cantons because they felt they had too many. Now they are promising to accelerate the vaccination campaign and will open vaccines to the whole adult population as of May (and not June as originally planned). Terraces soon to reopen? The government is meeting tomorrow to decide on whether it is possible to lift certain restrictions, the main contender seems to be the reopening of restaurant terraces. Most cantons as well as businesses associations are calling for this measure to be implemented. Currently only 2 out of the 5 criteria for a reopening are met. We will see what the government decides and share the information with you.
Marriage for all. A motion to prevent gay marriage from being entered into the constitution is being opposed by conservatives who fear that the sanctity of marriage and the rights that come with it (including artificial insemination) will be denigrated. They managed to collect close to 54 000 votes and have put their initiative, to prevent this law from being recognised, to parliament. Expect to vote on this initiative in the coming years. The association “No to marriage for all” is having trouble opening a bank account as several banks have refused to accept them as clients, fearing the backlash. The association is taking the Raiffeisen bank to court arguing that this is discriminatory. The bank counters that it has the right to refuse to open a bank account to organisations whose values they do not support.
