Znüni News – Thursday September 2nd

The government announced yesterday that it planned to make no changes to any Covid-19 rules, despite numbers remaining at a record high for this year for the 3rd week running. They will look at how the situation evolves and reconvene next week. Regarding travelling no restriction have been decided either, making Switzerland with the most relaxed entry requirements country in Europe.

It looks like Lucerners can expect to pay less taxes locally. The national bank has 964 billion francs invested in dividends and as they are doing well, they are giving out more money to cantons. In Lucerne’s case 6 billion instead of 4 billion francs, meaning that the city will receive 192 million francs more. They intend to spend this on better infratructures and to give Luzerners a tax cut.

416 347 people were registered as living in the canton of Lucerne at the end of 2020, that is a slight population growth of 0.8%. there were 965 births and 3346 deaths (232 from coronavirus). 1/5 of the population is foreign, 80% of which come from Europe.

Finally you can expect a sunny and warm day and weekend. Enjoy!
