The number of Covid cases are up by 47% compared to last week and 55% of all official tests are also coming back positive. This shows that a large number of people are not getting tested which, in turn, means that the number of cases is probably even greater. The Department of Health is estimating that the real number of daily cases is 3 times higher than what is currently being published, which would mean somewhere around 75 000 daily cases. Hospitals are now also seeing more patients with Covid. The reason for this rise in numbers is the new Omicron variant from Denmark which is even more infectious.

Whereas most large companies such as Coca-Cola, Heineken, McDonalds and Starbucks have closed their shops and businesses in Russia, the Swiss companies Nestlé and Coop have decided to keep their businesses open. Both feel that it is important to not sanction the people of Russia for the actions of their government. However, both companies are ready to pull out if they deem it necessary.

More and more people are preparing for an emergency in Switzerland. Online shops offering survival kits are being overrun with orders. The Swiss government is advising people to, in general, have 9 liters of water in reserve per person, and enough food for one week.

If a driver is caught going 70 km/h in a 30 km/h zone they are condemned to one year in jail. This is too much according to the national parliament who are now calling for less strict sentences to be given to people caught speeding excessively. A decision will be made in the coming months.
