Znüni News – Friday September 28

The Swiss political scene experienced a double surprise this week as two members of the federal council announced that they were resigning within 48 hours of each other. Doris Leuthard is currently minister of transport and energy, whilst Johann Schneider-Amman is minister of economy. They will both be leaving their posts end of this year, there is no known link between the two members resigning. The federal council is made up of seven members and it will be interesting to see who the new members will be and which way they will sway the government.

In other news the Tropenhaus in Wolhusen will be closing next June. This little bit of “tropical paradise” in Switzerland has been running for 20 years now and currently employs 50 people. However expensive refurbishments would be needed and unfortunately the financing is lacking. If you haven’t been there, we highly recommend it, especially on a cold day! Find out more here.

Finally pharmaceutical company Roche has just bought Tusk Therapeutics for 665 million euros. The company is specialised in the discovery and study of antibodies that help the immune system fight cancer.

Here is some Friday fun, schweizerdeutsch lesson 2!
