Introducing the LiLi Centre

The LiLi Centre, a new community centre for international residents living in Luzern

Sometimes, you dream of something for so long that when it really happens you can’t quite believe it or trust yourself to turn your dream into a reality.

Even before I took over Living in Luzern, I have been dreaming of creating a space where a real sense of community could be developed. A place where people could come along, have a drink, chat and get some advice on how to make the most of their time here, or perhaps get help with a legal issue.

This will be…

  • A place where parents with young kids can come and let the children run around, whilst they connect and relax in each other’s company.
  • A place where classes will be taught, knowledge shared, experiences and advice exchanged.
  • A place where entrepreneurs can find similarly minded people and pool their knowledge.
  • A place to learn about Swiss culture and help with integration.
  • A place for art, be it theatre, photography or painting, to be created and shared.

The search has been long, and along the way many people have given their time to advise and share their own experience.

I’m excited to announce that we have found the near perfect venue just 10 minutes from Luzern Bahnhof and near the Üfschötti. We are taking the leap of faith that there is a community in and around Lucerne waiting to connect, grow and thrive together.

We plan on opening the LiLi Centre this coming June. Once open, this will be the official home for all Living in Luzern activities, including our Coffee Mornings, Mums & Tots, German Conversation Groups, Playgroups, Job Integration programs, and much, much more!

But there are a lot of things that need to happen along the way…

First, we are looking for volunteers who might donate a few hours (or even some slightly used furniture or toys!) to help us refurbish and run the centre.

Second, we will soon be pre-signing members so that we can raise money for our start-up budget.

Lastly, we are looking for your feedback and ideas on programming, activities, and other ways we might grow the community centre. After all, we want this to be a place for YOU!

We invite you to join us for our next Brainstorming Session, this Wednesday (20th April) from 19:30 – 21:00 at the venue for the centre, Alpenquai 40a. This is your chance to offer your feedback and ideas about the LiLi Centre and to let us know if your willing to volunteer. We hope to see a lot of you at this event, please register your interest through our event on Facebook or by email. There will be other sessions at a later date.

In the coming weeks, you will hear a lot more about the centre and if, at any time, you feel like joining in the exciting experience of bringing this dream to fruition, please contact me directly.
