Good Coffee Places

Living in a city that isn’t that focused on coffee isn’t necessarily a bad thing, you can get a good cup of brew in any of the many coffee houses and bars scattered around the cities.

There’s a lot more that goes in to a cup of coffee, you need that cosy vibe, good lighting and friendly service and no capsulated coffee in sight!

Here are a few of our favourite coffee houses.

Melissa’s Kitchen – Hirschengraben 19: A lovely cozy, firendly cafe offering great teas, coffees and cakes. As well as an amazing Sunday brunch.

Alpineum coffee house & bar – Denkmalstrasse 11: it is situated in a beautiful building by the Löwendenkmal. This is a small place that offers a very warm and welcoming atmosphere, to sit and get lost in a book or catch up with friends. Their coffee is supplies by Lucerne based company, El Imposible Roasters.

Each day they offer a small selection of pastries and different daily dished to eat (as well as a cracking selection of wines) this place is defiantly worth checking out. If you are lucky enough you might get a sneaky peak of the adorable little French bull dog hanging out there.

Alfred _ Bleicherstrasse 1, is an adorable little corner coffee bar, located in the centre of new town. This is a small building and it’s the definition of cosy, this is where you want to go for ‘you time’ to grab a book and kick back and enjoy. There’s a nice big window on one side for the perfect amount of light. Alfred’s is top notch for a crafted coffee (latte, Capp, macchiato etc) their blend goes well with milk and they have delicious cafes on offer.

The LUZ see bistro right across from station square is one giant window, letting in all that glorious natural light. Luz is on the smaller scale, it is placed right over the lake, so you can feast your eyes on that fantastic view with a cup of coffee and watch the world sail by (they also have a wonderful outside area). Also a great place to spend an evening with friends, drinking to good health and eating fine food. LUZ has more of a vibrant upbeat vibe than the other two cosy/homely atmospheres.

Here is a list of other little independent places to check out yourself:

La Mesa – Libellenstrasse 28

Coffee shop, Hotel Astoria – Pilatustrasse 29

Café bar – mardi gras – Burgerstrasse 5

Kostbar – Murbacherstrasse 35

Hinicht – Dornacherstrasse 3

Cafe Tacuba (Eichwaldstrasse 10) & Koffeinshop (Winkelriedstrasse 51) – both great places to get supplies for home brewing
