Znüni News – Wednesday March 7

Did you know that Lucerne doesn’t actually have a police force anymore? Since 2009 there is no more city police but only a cantonal police. This explains why if you get robbed or burgled on the weekend you have to wait until Monday to find someone willing to take your statement. Overall the city is quite satisfied with the cooperation with the cantonal police, despite the police being short handed due to budget cuts.

In view of this we thought we would highlight some of the cases the cantonal police have had to deal with in the last 48 hours:

On Monday the police found 3 illegal immigrants hiding in an apartment, one of them in a wardrobe. It seems like they originate from Algeria and were refused entry into the country.

Tuesday, around 14.30, a car crash took place in Emmenbrücke. Police are looking for any witnesses. Please contact this number if you witnessed the incident: 041 248 81 17

Two Albanians managed to burgle 180 homes, stealing over 440 000 francs worth of goods and causing over 210 000 francs worth of damage. They were averaging 4 break-ins per night. They will be receiving sentences of 5 to 6 years in jail.

Finally, criminals pretending to be policemen are currently operating in the region by sending emails purpoting to come from the police and that have a malware hidden inside an attachment. The (real) police advises to not open the document and delete the email.
