The snow has finally stopped, leaving masses and masses of snow to go and play in. With the sun shining and 160 cm of fresh snow people will no doubt flock to the slopes and hope to do some free riding. Caution is still called for as avalanche level is still 3 out of 5 in central Switzerland. Avalanches have been continuing in the last couple of days notably in Davos where soldiers securing the village in advance of the WEF had to run from an avalanche threatening them. The situation should calm down in the coming days.
The drain of stores downtown continues as Möbel Pfister has announced that it will be moving out of its location on the Zürichstrasse and into the Emmen Centre instead. There is talk of a city manager position to be created to help prevent downtown from turning into a jungle of tourist/souvenir shops.
Talking of shops, it seems like there has finally been a breakthrough regarding opening hours for shops. The latest suggestions which has been widely accepted by (nearly)all parties is to have shops remain open until 19.00 during the week and until 17.00 on Saturdays. In exchange there will only be one late shopping night a week. These new opening hours could be put into place as “early” as 2020.
The canton of Lucerne is proud to announce that nowhere in Switzerland have so many companies been created as in the canton growing by 3.3% in 2018. This is in no small part due to the fantastic work done by Business Lucerne. Well done!
