Yesterday Zürich celebrated the Sechsleläuten, a century old tradition which marks the end of the winter. The finale is the Böög, a giant snowman, being set on fire. The amount of time it requires for him to explode is meant to predict the kind of summer we will have. The longer it takes the greyer the summer. In this case the Böög took 17 minutes and 44 seconds, which would signify a very average summer. Luckily in recent years the accuracy of this prediction has proven to be completely unreliable.
A 40 year old snowboarder died last Saturday whilst skiing off-piste in Engelberg. He had taken an off-piste route from the Titlis called Galtiberg. Because he was on his own and from abroad no one noticed that he was missing until Sunday night. His body was found on Monday when weather conditions were finally good enough for a helicopter to search for his body.
Two men were arrested in Lugano with jewellery from thefts which they perpetrated between January 18th and February 3rd.
