Znüni News – Monday August 24

Last week the average rate of Covid-19 infections was around 300 new cases per day in Switzerland, with over 800 people in quarantine in Lucerne either because they were ill or because they returned from countries deemed to be high risk and had to self quarantine as a consequence.

The Balearic islands, Belgium and Malta have now joined the high risk country list requiring quarantine.

Scotland has now added Switzerland to its high risk country and requires anyone travelling there from Switzerland to self quarantine for 2 weeks.

As of today, the city of Basel requires people (including children aged 12 and up) entering shops to wear a mask, joining the ranks of the Waadt, Geneva, the Jura and Neuenburg in imposing this rule.

A man who rented a van from Sixt in Zurich was shocked to be charged CHF 5000.- for damage on the roof on the driver‘s side after he returned the van (after hours). He assures he was not responsible for the damage but Sixt is insistent, after a consumer‘s right association got involved the fine was lowered to CHF 1000.-. This is a reminder that when you rent a car/van you must take photographs of the vehicle from all sides when you rent it (including the roof) and then again when you return the vehicle (especially after hours).

The hot weather has encouraged water plants to grow in the lake and in the Reuss river. They may seem like an eye sore but they are totally harmless and will die down when the temperatures drop again.
