Znüni News – Friday January 12

For the next fortnight you can ski in Andermatt-Sedrun for CHF 10.- a day from Monday through to Friday. The other ski resorts are obviously displeased, referring to this as price dumping and arguing that this is the beginning of the slippery slope (pun intended) to unsustainable low prices. The Andermatt-Sedrun resort counters that this is actually a one-off, this time of the year is known as the January Hole, as the Christmas holidays are over and children have gone back to school, so they are doing this to tide them over until the next holidays scheduled beginning of February. In any case if you have time on your hands you know where to go.

The Bürglind storm left a big mark on the region with over 100 000 cubic metres of wood needing to be felled. It will take well into the summer to clear up the surrounding forests . Insurance companies are looking at a bill for over 10 million francs.

The SBB has installed a ban on smoking in certain train stations (Basel, Bellinzona, Chur, Neunburg, Nyon and Zürich Stadelhofen) as a pilot phase to completely banning smoking. The pilot phase will begin on February 1st and run for 3 months.

Heads up on January 26th until January 28th the Palace Hotel will be selling their inventory of tables, chairs and smaller items, you will probably be able to pick up some great deals.
