Znüni News – Friday April 20

Every household in Switzerland spent a minimum of 803 francs towards health costs in 2016. This is the most ever since the obligatory health insurance was instated 20 years ago and means that 80 billions francs was spent on health bills nationwide in 2016 alone. Now the government is coming under pressure to find ways to cut costs, either by lowering premiums or by loosening the rules in the branch so that patiens can choose cheaper doctors or medicines for example.

Although our country seems to be full of farming land and farmers, these have a real hard time making a living. Every year over 300 million francs worth of milk product are bought aboard by consumers meaning that local farmers are having to find other ways to earn a living. Migros thinks that the solution is to have high standards for Swiss cows, such as not giving the animals antibiotics, feeding lots of fresh food and, finally, giving them a name! This way we know that they are not just a number and that the farmer will take even greater care for them. Support your farmer and buy local milk produce.

With these warm temperatures you could be forgiven for thinking that sommer is here but our local badis are nowehere near to being open. The official season will begin on the weekend of May 12/13. There is too much to tidy up before, paddling pools need repairing, the grass needs to be prepared for the season ahead and the staff has not been hired yet. So if you cannot wait you will need to head for the Ufschötti, but be warned the lake water temperature is still a cool 16° Celsius!
