Znüni News – Tuesday November 30

The University Winter Olympics was due to start on December 11, bringing 1500 athletes from over 50 countries to Central Switzerland. Unfortunately due to the new Covid-19 variant, Omicron, the event has been cancelled, as athletes and entourages from many countries would have had to quarantine upon arrival.

This also has a knock-on effect on the hotels in the region who have now had 30 000 nights cancelled.

In fact hotels all over the country are having to deal with thousands of cancellations as foreigners are rethinking their winter holidays.

The government has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the new variant and which measures will need to be put in place (or not) as a result of it. We will give you an update as soon as we know more.

As of tomorrow anyone over the age of 16 can get a booster. You can sign up to get an appointment here. You can get a booster without an appointment at the vaccination boat and truck but expect long waiting times.

The gastronomy guide Gault Millau came out today and gave its new ratings to the following restaurants in the region: 18/20: Vitznau: Focus and Sens restaurants. 17/20 Escholzmatt: Rössli. 16/20 Lucerne: Olivo, Maihöfli; Meggen: La Pistache; Rigi Kaltbad: Regina Montium; Vitznau: Prisma.
