A tragic accident occurred on the night from Sunday to Monday above Arolla in the Valais region. Two ski tours were underway from one ski hut to another when they were surprised by a storm and couldn’t reach the safety of the second hut before nightfall. This meant that both groups had to spend the night outside and with temperatures plummeting to minus 10 with the wind adding a chill factor, they quickly developed hypothermia. Although the were rescued the next morning, four people died with the others suffering from frost bite and hypothermia. A further two mountaineers aged 21 & 22 were also caught out and were found dead.

The association of city businesses has a new director, Josef Williner, and his first agenda is to extend shopping hours for businesses in the town centre. He is calling for shops to stay open until 19.00 during the week and 18.00 on Saturdays.

The government is earmarking 132 million francs to help better integrate refugees in the work world. The money will go towards offering more languages classes as well as further education. This will come to CHF 18 000.- per person versus the current CHF 6000.- currently earmarked.
