When things are looking up in our society then there is less need for social help. This in consequence leads to more layoffs, in this case it is the charity Caritas which is letting seven members of it staff go, mainly because there are now only 133 undergare asylum seekers in the canton, and the number of unemployed has dropped from 5000 to 4500, oh wait make that 4507 now.

The Postauto scandal continues to grow, with news that it’s subsidiary in France, Carpostal, being involved. Carpostal recorded losses of over 44 million euros in 2016, and the Postauto has been pumping money into the company to keep it from going bankrupt. Accused of Price Dumping, Carpostal is being brought to court by other bus companies accusing it of unfair business trading.

The Migros in the Schönbuhl shopping centre is about to get an 11 million francs facelift, which will last from March through to November of this year. Migros is aiming to not totally close their shop and, presumably, the other shops will not be affected.

For those of us who were hoping for spring, we will have to wait longer as this week will see a Siberian cold front bringing us temperatures well below zero degrees celsius. Winter still has us in its grips!
