From November 8th, the USA is opening its borders to people who are fully vaccinated, have a negative PCR test, and have filled out their ESTA form. This last point can lead to great stress if not done properly as has been reported from the Zürich airport. Also expect really long queues at check-in, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time.

Anyone wishing to take their bike onto a train must book a spot for it in advance. This despite several petitions asking the SBB to come back on their decision. The SBB has promised to add an extra 400 spots for bikes on their train by 2025.

As more and more businesses close down because of the current situation, rents for shops are in general being lowered downtown too. It seems that the days of charging CHF 3000.- per square meters are behind, for now.

The prize for neighbourhood initiative went to Seed of Change, a group who have worked to improve the life of the Basel/Bernstrasse area.
