Znüni News – Thursday May 24

The SBB has announced its new railroad calendar which will come in effect this December. The good news is that there will now be direct trains from Lucerne to Locarno at 8.18 every morning, up to now you could only get a direct train so early on the weekend Now for the bad news, there will be no more direct trains from Lucerne to the airport in Zürich. The train which usually leaves Lucerne at 10 past the hour will now stop in Zürich and you will have to change and take the next train at 35 past the hour to make it to the airport. This means that the trip will now take 72 minutes instead of 62 minutes. SBB is not being clear as to why they have made this decision but see this as an improvement as the train will now go on to Winterthur and Konstanz, which will not help anyone going to the airport! The fact is that train is used by many, whether locals or tourists, wishing to travel to and fro between central Switzerland and the airport seems to make no difference. This also means that you cannot go directly from Lucerne to Zürich Oerlikon anymore and will have to catch an S.Bahn or tram to get there. Several traveller association are astonished and deeply disappointed by this decision. Unfortunately there isn’t much they can do to change the train company’s mind.

First it was a bear, now a wolf has been spotted in central Switzerland (canton Zug). This is shortly after a wolf was spotted near Horgen in the canton of Zürich. It is unclear whether it is the same wolf or not. There is no reason to panic, in fact it shows that the programme for the rehabilitation of wolves in Switzerland is successful, wolves are not considered a danger for man. They are generally shy creatures. Should you come across a wolf, do not react in panic, calmly back away and should you have a dog with you be sure to keep it on its leash.
