Salaries in Switzerland are not really regulated with a couple of exceptions. The gastronomy branch is one of the only branches that actually has very clear rules as to how much people should earn, thanks to a strong trade union. The union had asked for a 2% increase, the branch countered with a 0.2% so the union took their case to court and won. It comes as good news that the salaries are due to rise. The minimum salary for an employee without a gastronomy specific education is now CHF 3435.-, those who have a gastronomy certificate can now expect to earn CHF 4849.-  a month.

The army has decided to modernise what their soldiers wear and their equipment. They are investing 2 billion francs into upgrading uniforms and combat clothning as well as improving their cougar helicopter amngst others. The army is very proud of the fact most of their uniforms have been designed to be unisex, the only exception being the underwear. They have also invested in a new drinking system which cost 10 million francs. All of this is to ensure that the equipment is always lighter and more durable.
