Today the canton’s parliament will be deciding whether there should be a mandatory wearing of masks in shops. Currently Lucerne has not made this compulsory, unlike other cantons.

10 000 students are going (back) to college today. Despite the pandemic the number of students is growing much to the satisfaction of the various local colleges. The music students are now able to enjoy the new Südpol Campus.

As we mentioned last week, eight Swiss cities (including Lucerne) have offered to take in asylum seekers from the Moria camp on the island of Lesbos. The government, however, didn’t feel that this could be done without the consent of the EU. They have now decided to take in 20 unaccompanied minors and have also sent a ton of aid material to the island to help the migrants there.

Chaos on the roads continued this weekend with many traffic jams and quite a few accidents. One hot spot is around Emmen where there currently are two speed bumps that slow the traffic right down. Signs have now been put up pleading with people to take those bumps at a minimum speed of 60 km/h in order to keep the traffic flowing.

Get your swimsuits out, this week is expected to be a return to summer weather, with the temperatures close to 30 degrees!
