Today is Queen Elizabeth II funeral. Over 1000 guests have been invited including practically all heads of states bar Afghanistan, Belarus, Burma, Russia, Syria and Venezuela. Well over 1 billion people are expected to watch the funeral which will begin at 11.44. Switzerland will be represented by our current president Ignazio Cassis.
Pensioners and people receiving Invalidity Support from the state can expect an extra 20 to 30 francs next year, in order to help with the rising costs. Currently the minimum pension is CHF 1195.-, so the difference will probably not be enough to outweigh the forecast rising cost of energy bills.
A portuguese man and his partner made over CHF 170 000.- by ordering products from Zalandoo and not paying for them. They would photograph names from letterboxes, create fake identities with them and then order goods using this identity. They were able to follow online the goods being delivered and would be at the door to receive the packages as they were delivered. They would then either keep or sell on the goods. The man has been sentenced to three years in jail and will then be extradited whilst his partner, who has a child, has been given a 2 year sentence but will not have to leave the country once she lives jail.
A wolf was found dead on Sunday morning after being runover by a car near Giswil, Obwalden. The wolf was quite young which foresters suspects means that it was part of a pack. The mystery is that there have been no recent sightings of wolves in the canton, so the wolf cannot be identified.
Friday Ed Sheeran was in concert in Zurich, some 50 000 people were lucky enough to see him, but for a few who had then booked a room in the Hyatt Regency Hotel at the airport the evening then ended in a nightmare. Their room doors would not open due to a electronic error and they had to spend the night in the lobby, trying to sleep on the sofas.
