Yesterday Switzerland voted and it was the fourth largest voter turnout since the 1960s. The Covid law was approved by 62%, the justice initiative rejected by 68.1% and the nursing care initiative approved by 61%. This last initiative is historical because it is calling for work laws to be adapted for one specific professional branch; it remains to be seen whether this will have a knock-on effect for the other branches. Meanwhile Omicron, the new Covid-19 variant, seems to be here with one case currently being investigated. In any case the government has decided to ban flights from South African countries and put several other countries back on the quarantine list including the UK. Let’s hold our nerves and see whether the restrictions will still be in place for the Christmas holidays.
The FC Lucerne was playing against Basel last night. Fights between fans broke out even before the game started, forcing the police to bring in even more reinforcement. In any case Basel won by 3 – 1.
