The town’s budget was approved by 80% of voters this Sunday. This means that your local tax will go down from 1.75% to 1.7%, this will lead to a sortage of revenue for the city of CHF 8 million but because for the last 6 years the town has been in the plus by close to CHF 20 million yearly this should not lead to any cuts in services.
Now it is the turn of the Tamedia Press Agency to make headlines, this time for bullying and sexism. Namely the director of the “Das Magazin” has been accused of bullying and belittling many journalists especially women during his stint which lasted from 2007 to 2022 when he resigned. Only now are the claims being properly investigated.
FIFA, the football organisation is looking for a new home in the US. The World Cup will be taking place in America in 2026, so it would make sense for the organisation to be more present there, namely in Florida. What remains unclear is whether this means that the organisation will be moving its headquarters from Switzerland to the US at the same time.
Bird flu is proving to be virulent this winter all over the world, but now it has been found in mammals too. Switzerland has decided to have each case tested to see whether the virus is mutating into one which could affect humans too.
The ship Wilhelm Tell has been used as a restaurant since the seventies. This wednesday it will be closed and moved so that it can undergo a full revision before reopening on March 11th. The Speuer Bridge is also currently undergoing renovations for CHF 390 000.- which should be partially finished in time for Fasnacht. The bridge has to be renovated every 10 to 15 years.
From tomorrow the weather should be mainly sunny but cold (particularly at nights with temperatures reaching -8°C on wednesday).
