Znüni News – Monday February 19

After a two weeks hiatus the Znüni News returns to give you a summary of what is making the headlines locally.

The biggest scandal is that the Postauto lied about how much profit it was generating in order to get more state subsidies ranging in the millions of francs. The CEO is pleading not having known about the fraud and has, so far, not had to resign.

Fasnacht was a huge success with over 150 000 spectators and fasnachtlers taking part in the festivities. The police were happy to report that there were no major crimes or fights to break up. The only fatality occured the day after when an older gentleman fell into the Reuss and unfortunately died of his injuries. It is not clear whether this was related to Fasnacht merriment or not.

If you still feel like you want some more Fasnacht the Basler Fasnacht began this morning at 4 a.m., expect something a lot more traditional and tame.

Snow brought chaos to the country again last week with Zermatt being cut off from the rest of the world again, and avalanches causing injuries and deaths in the Alps. Winter still has us in its grip!
