We all heard the two loud booms yesterday evening. They were sonic booms caused by two jet planes escorting a Swiss flight from Pristina over Swiss airspace. A bomb alarm had been made at the airport the flight took off from, but the plane was never in danger.

If you also heard explosions in the morning that was part of the Corpus Christi procession when old cannons are discharged in order to dispel evil spirits. This is an over 440 year old Catholic tradition in Lucerne.

Migros is a cooperative and its consumers are its members. They voted overwhelmingly to not allow Migros to sell alcohol in its stores, this despite the management wishing to do so.

The national bank has, for the first time in 15 years, raised its interest rate by 0.5%. The interest rate remains in the negative at -0.25%. The reasoning behind it is to keep inflation under control.

There is not enough butter in Switzerland. Incredibly the country has to import roughly 4000 tons of butter every year as most of the milk goes to cheese production. This year an extra 1000 tons are required to meet national demand until the end of the year.

It’s going to get very hot this weekend. Temperatures of up to 35° Celsius have been forecast for the country. Stay hydrated and cool!
