The freshly elected federal councillors were given their roles for the coming year. The socialist Elizabeth Baume-Schneider will be head of the justice department, the right wing Albert Rösti will be head of the environment, energy, transport and communication department and Karin Sutter is switching to become head of the finance department. So no big changes, more a call for calm and continuity.

Cantons will now be allowed to kill wolves as a preventive measure should their numbers grow too strong. This was voted in parliament and will mean that every year from September 1. to December 31. it will be legal for hunters to shoot wolves.

The department of health had registered just over 40 000 hospitalisations of people with Covid-19 for the years 20 & 21, the new statistics show that in fact it was over 84 000 people who needed to be hospitalised as a result of the virus. it is unclear why the discrepency is so large.

The airline company Swiss has announced that it raising the salary of its cabin personel by 18%. This comes after 3 years of negotiations. Starting salaries will now be CHF 4000.- instead of CHF 3400.-

Snow is falling but it will not be the snow chaos witnessed in Germany. Temperatures will be heading into the minus this weekend. This year there is a real possibility of us having a white Christmas. Fingers crossed!
