Witches Way at Wirzweli

With Halloween just around the corner why not take your kids on a hike through the ‘Witches Way’ at Wirzweli (www.Wirzweli.ch) to get into the spirit of things?

Enter the wood via an old creaking door and follow the trail of Lizi the Witch passing several activity stations along the way including spiders webs, bags of magic potions and a small witches house. You can even get in some flying practise on the witches broom zip slide! Before leaving the wood pick up a couple of coloured magic stones and take a little bit of witch magic home with you.

The hike starts at Gummenalp and takes around 1 to 1.5 hours down a slight slope which eventually leads back to Wirzweli. The trail is simple to find by following witches brooms attached to trees along the route. It is suitable for children of 4 years and up but is not buggy friendly (although other buggy friendly hikes are possible in the area).

There is a fantastic playground for children of all ages at Wirzweli and a tobagggon run. The area is serviced by several restaurants and there is also a large grilling/BBQ area (wood provided) at the playground.

To get to the start of the trail, take the cable car from Dallenwil to Wirzweli (which runs every 20 minutes from 07:40 to 18:20) then walk up to the Restaurant Waldegg where a private 4 seater cable car will take you the final leg up to Gummenalp. Dallenwil is a 30 minute drive from Luzern (en route to Engelberg) and also has a train station. A free shuttle bus runs from Dallenwil train station to the cable car station (call ahead to arrange).

It’s really easy to spend an entire day in the area – a magic time can be had by all!
