Where to find good live music in Luzern

When it comes to music Luzern offers quite a varied LIVE music scene in comparison to the small size of the city.

Depending on your own approach and favourite music you can chose between many styles of music, the KKL is the biggest concert house for mostly classical music, as well as famous Jazz and Pop artists once in a while .

The Konzerthaus Schüür  is one of the biggest places and in summer their garden is lovely. Their programme is eclectic enough to discover new and established acts from Swiss and international artists. The Swiss soul singer Seven will perfom there on April 1st. Also The Stadtkeller is a very old established live music place.

As to smaller cosier places I first would like to mention La Madeleine. For example the “Salty Dog Blues Band” have established their Thursdays once a month at this bar. Tschuppi’s Wonderbar is a great spot for the Rock and Blues generation. It’s smoky, but very animated. The owner is an absolute music lover. Blues Legend Bob Stroger performs there every end of the year.  Another great Rock venue is the Bruch Brothers Bar. The Bar58 hosts smaller Jazz acts sometimes. In fact the four I just mentioned are quite close from each other and easy to reach by foot. Patrick Archer plays at Bruch Brothers often too with his “Jam Session”.

The Jam Sessions have their revival these days in Luzern. On Wednesday it’s at Bar 59. The beautiful Art Deco Hotel Montana has a Jazz & Blues Jam Session on Thursdays. The music students of the HSLU play at Jazzkantine.

For electronic concerts, there is a place called Südpol in Kriens, quite an industrial spot. And not to forget: the Sedel. One of the oldest venue in a former prison is great for Alternative Rock and Punk.

In the old town you would find concerts at the Shamrock Pub as well as the Pickwick Pub with mostly English/ Irish bands.

People told me also about the Kegelbahn, Gewerbehalle, Neubad and Uferlos. They occasionally organise concerts.

At Treibhaus  you can discover cool new bands, as it’s a youth center. If you are close to the station visit the Luzseebistro for a monthly concert.

For those who would love to discover the concert scene in Zug there is Galvanik, Chollerhalle, Zytclub und Industrie 45.

Therefore there are lots of gigs to discover this year. It would be great if you post your feedback below, or about you finding out about new places or places mentioned above where you like it most particularly.
