Treat yourself to a day out at the Mineralbad and Spa Rigi-Kaltbad

I recently spent an amazing day with my friends at the Mineralbad & Spa Rigi-Kaltbad and it was bliss!

The spa only opened last summer so is fresh, clean and modern. Upstairs, there is a large pool area with whirlpools, bubble loungers, neck showers, etc all with panaromic views of the surrounding mountains. From there, you can swim out to a heated outdoor pool and relax outside whilst being surrounded by snow. Downstairs there is the spa area with a herbal steam room, sauna, crystal bath, relaxing room and lounge.

Being a prudish Brit, I am always slightly nervous about the levels of nudity in Swiss spas (sorry, can’t help myself) but can report that it wasn’t too much of an issue at Rigi spa! Everyone wore swimwear in the pool area, steam room, crystal bath and lounge but did strip off for the sauna. However, as far as I’m aware, there is nothing to stop you wearing your swimming costume in the sauna if you choose (just don’t look down!).

The spa is at the Rigi-Kaltbad stop and can be reached via the cable car from Weggis or by train from Vitznau. The cost of entry to the spa for the day (excluding transport) is CHF 25 if you show them you cable car / train ticket (CHF 35 without) and can be upgraded to include a 25/50 min massage and glass of prosecco for CHF 85/135 (CHF 95/145 without) which was worth every penny.

Children are allowed into the pool area when accompanied by an adult but only over 16s can go into the spa area. The cost of entry for 6 to 15 year olds is CHF 10 (CHF 15 without ticket). However, I personally would leave the kids at home for the day and take them to a regular pool instead where they can splash around with floats, etc.

You can also buy gift vouchers to the spa so well worth treating your loved ones (or hinting to them if you have a birthday/special event coming up). I’m already planning my next trip!
