For the past 6 years, the dazzling Lilu Light Festival has illuminated the city of Lucerne and provided entertainment for all during what can be a gloomy month for some. It may be cold and dark outside, but the festival provides some much needed New Year light for all to enjoy. This year is now different and the festival is taking place between the 9th – 19th January 2024.
Artists from across the globe have been invited to create illuminated artwork throughout the city, creating a magical atmosphere. You can follow a map of the installations, stopping at each to admire the view and read about the meaning behind the work. There are also a number of larger music and light activities taking place on different dates, which you can buy tickets for here.
There are free tours all over town to enjoy and some special concerts such as the Eternity show in the Jesuit church with various artists. You can buy tickets here. You can also book tickets for a private tour of the festival.
The light shows begin at 18.00 and starts at the KKL. Follow the map through the old town and along the river to see all of the installations. Submit a secret message at the ‘Sound the deep waters’, watch the butterflies or jellyfish navigate the old town, or see the iconic Lucerne water towers all light-up! In all 24 light installations will enchant you and warrant more than one visit.
