If you have passed by the KKL or Lucerne train station this past week then you may have noticed a hive of activity as the city prepares for it’s annual Autumn Fair. Or maybe you noticed the huge ferris wheel appear overnight. Either way, you may be wondering what the Autumn Fair is all about and what to expect from it. We’ve summarised below a few things to help you make the most of this fun, dazzling event.
What is the Lozärner Määs?
Every year, the Lucerne Autumn Fair (Lozärner Määs) takes place in the heart of Lucerne, right next to the train station. This year the fair is celebrating 650 years and will run from Saturday 5th October until Sunday 20th October. It begins at Bahnhofplatz and runs along the banks of the KKL to Inselipark.
The Chilbi, or Luzerner Määs, was traditionally a county fair and originally to help celebrate the city’s patron Saint, (October 2.) and the priests ordination day. The fair today is more centred around welcoming the autumn with stalls, shops, music and good food!
What can you expect to find at Lozärner Määs?
The Lucerne autumn fair brings the city of life, with over 100 little wooden houses placed along the river banks, serving food, craft, candies, and so much more. The city will be lit with lights, rides and there will be a ‘festival’ vibe to the city that you won’t want to miss out on experiencing. There is a special ambience to the Lucerne autumn fair.
