Ideas on how to celebrate Mother’s Day in Lucerne this weekend

This Sunday, 12th May, is Mother’s Day (Muttertag) in Switzerland. Whether you’re looking for a way to spoil your mum, an activity to do with the children, or would like to treat yourself, we’ve collated some ideas for you below. The sun is (hopefully) set to shine for much of the weekend so we hope you find something you will enjoy.

Friday 10th May

On Friday between 20:00 – 22:00 ‘Kirks Patrol’ will be playing a live concert for free at the Pavilion concert stand. Head to Kurplatz, not far from the Luzernerhof bus stop, for an evening of rock.

The Piano Festival 2024 is taking place all weekend at the KKL. Igor Levit is joined by many musicians and will cover pieces from Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, and more. See the KKL website for details.

Saturday 11th May

The weekly Lucerne market is taking place on Saturday between 07:00 – 12:00. Head down to Bahnhofstrasse near Kapellbrücke to browse local good and produce from around Lucerne.

Just a short walk from here you can also find the Lucerne flea market taking place between 08:00 – 14:00 at Vögeligärtli, next to the university library and the St Luke’s Reformed Church.

The KKL is offering a public tour of the impressive building at 11:00 on Saturday. Located at Europaplatz, next to Lucerne’s train station. We recommend checking the website to reserve a spot on an English or German tour.

Sunday 12th May

A number of restaurants in and around Lucerne are offering Mother’s Day brunch or lunch offers. Here are a few we’ve found:

The Lucerne Pavilion will be filled with music once again on Sunday between 10:00 – 12:00 as the Dorfmusikanten Horw take to stage.

The Lucerne Theatre is offering free entry to ‘Giustino’, an opera by Antonio Vivaldi. It is taking place 10:00 – 11:00 at St. Matthew’s Church. It is in Italian with German subtitles, but one that all can appreciate. Check the website for full details.

We wish you a Happy Mother’s Day, however and with whoever you like to celebrate. Alles Liebe zum Muttertag!
