I heart Luzern by Geneviève Colmer

Hi guys! This is my first post as a new Living in Luzern blogger and I am beyond excited. I arrived back in September, fresh off the plane from Montreal, Canada and I still cannot believe the good fortune I have of living here. Everyday, I discover new hidden gems in this beautiful region and I look forward to sharing them with you weekly.

I was struck by the immense beauty of Luzern as soon as I stepped out of the train station.   It’s a city that has the perfect mix of tradition, history and contemporary flare. It’s romantic, energetic and enchanting. Here are a few more reasons why Lucerne has a special place in my heart.

The waterfront in Luzern is hard to beat with its crystal clear water, pretty swans and historical buildings.

Speaking of water, I am in awe every time I walk across the Reuss river on one of Luzern’s gorgeous bridges. My favourite has to be Chapel bridge with it’s colourful flowers (and many tourists!).

The food and flower market. I just love strolling around and visiting the various stands that offer fresh local fruits and vegetables, cheeses, organic bread, and even international fare such as Lebanese and Vietnamese ready cooked snacks. Opened on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. For more information, you can visit their website here.

The luxurious hotels. I have a weakness for high end hotels and during my first week here I had the pleasure of joining the LIL team for an apero at the Grand National Hotel located right on the waterfront.  Enjoying a nice cocktail on their patio while watching the boats float by was not a bad way to finish the day.

The shopping. If you are like me and must hit the stores when you set foot in a new city, you are going to be spoiled in Luzern. Not only are the streets full of beautiful shops but you get to discover unique boutiques that offer top of the line products. Le Prince is one of my favourite destinations as I am a natural beauty product aficionado.

The fancy fountains. After all that shopping, you can quench your thirst at one of the cities 225 fountains which all carry clean tap water. How adorable are they?

I could go on and on about all that there is to discover in Luzern but let’s make the pleasure last shall we?  Until next time, I shall be roaming the streets of this charming city and will report back with my most precious finds.
