Friday January 9 – A day of national mourning

On New Year’s Day, Switzerland experienced one of its worst disasters when a fire broke out in a nightclub in Crans-Montana. The disaster resulted in 40 deaths and 116 injured, many of them minors and young adults. The survivors were left with life-changing injuries, while the families of those who lost their lives must deal with their grief.

In commemoration of those who lost their lives, Friday has been designated a national day of mourning, with a minute’s silence to be observed across the country at 14:00.

For those in our community who would like to commemorate the event, the International Church of Lucerne (www.icl.ch) is holding a short memorial service at 13.45 with a minute’s silence at 14.00. Pastor Dave has also offered his counselling services to anyone who wishes to speak with him.
