Christmas is but a couple of weeks away and most festivities are underway. It’s a joyful time of year with much to look forward to for most of us, but unfortunately it isn’t joyful for everyone.
The Women’s Shelter, here in Luzern, currently has women and children who have needed to escape difficult, challenging and often violent situations.
Domestic abuse is universal and unfortunately Switzerland is not an exception as can be seen in this report by the Federal Office for Gender Equality: Domestic Violence with an average of 25 deaths per year, with the majority being women.

The LiLi Centre would like to ask its members and members of the public to help the women and children who are currently in the shelter, or those who may end up there over the Christmas period. The centre is collecting the following essential items up until Wednesday, 10 December:
- Toys for children (new or like-new, for ages 2 -15)
- Body creams & lotions (new, unopened)
- Comfy blankets (new or like-new, freshly washed)
The items can be brought into the Lili Centre and they will be passed directly on to the shelter.
