Ten years ago, the LiLi Centre opened its doors with a simple but powerful idea: to create a welcoming space where internationally minded residents and locals could find information, support, and a sense of belonging in Lucerne. What began as a grassroots initiative has grown into one of Central Switzerland’s most vibrant community hubs—shaped by thousands of people, countless conversations, and a shared belief that integration is not a checklist, but a journey best taken together.
As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we look back on a decade defined by courage, creativity, and community spirit. Learn more HERE.
The Early Years: Planting the Seeds (2016–2018)
The LiLi Centre started with a vision: to make life in Lucerne easier, more connected, and more joyful for people navigating a new culture and a new home. In those first years, the Centre focused on the essentials—language support, practical information, and opportunities to meet others. Conversation groups, cultural exchanges, and informal meetups quickly became the heartbeat of the space.
These early initiatives revealed something important: people weren’t just looking for services. They were looking for community.
Building Structure and Strength (2018–2020)
As the community grew, so did the Centre’s understanding of what truly supports integration. This period marked the development of the LiLi Centre’s 10 programme pillars, each addressing a key area of life in Switzerland:
- Language and integration
- Career
- Entrepreneurship
- Culture
- Community
- Families and children
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Ecology and sustainability
- Physical wellbeing
This framework allowed the Centre to expand its offerings while staying true to its mission. Programmes became more structured, partnerships deepened, and the Centre began to establish itself as a trusted resource for both newcomers and long-term residents.
A Steady Anchor in Uncertain Times (2020–2022)
The COVID‑19 pandemic challenged communities everywhere, and the LiLi Centre was no exception. Yet this moment also revealed the Centre’s resilience and adaptability. Within weeks, activities moved online, support groups continued virtually, and the Centre became a lifeline for people facing isolation, job uncertainty, and the emotional strain of global upheaval.
The message was clear: even when the world feels distant, community can remain close.
Expanding Impact and Deepening Roots (2022–2025)
As life returned to in‑person rhythms, the LiLi Centre emerged stronger than ever. Programmes expanded across all pillars:
- Career support grew through workshops, mentoring, and collaborations with local organisations.
- Cultural events flourished, celebrating global traditions while helping newcomers understand Swiss life.
- Family and youth programmes multiplied, from coding clubs to theatre workshops to the HSK English school.
- Mental health initiatives became a core offering, reflecting a growing recognition of emotional wellbeing as part of integration.
- Sustainability and ecology gained momentum through hands‑on workshops and community projects.
The Centre also strengthened its role as a bridge between international residents and local institutions, fostering understanding, participation, and shared purpose.
Milestone Worth Celebrating: 10 Years of the LiLi Centre (2026)
This anniversary is more than a celebration—it’s a tribute to the people who shaped the Centre over the past decade. Volunteers, members, partners, staff, and supporters have all contributed to a space where thousands have found guidance, friendship, and a sense of home.
The 10th anniversary gala highlights not only what the Centre has achieved, but also what it stands for: inclusion, resilience, and the belief that community is built through connection.
Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter
