If you want to experience a different ski resort then head to Funivie Airolo – Pescium.
It was a 1 hour car trip from home to cable car, basically driving through the Gotthard tunnel and taking the first exit afterwards. We parked at the foot of the resort, got our tickets, (no queue) and waited for the cable car which leaves every 15 minutes, again no delays.
The cable car stopped at the middle station and we quickly were on the Comascnè T-bar, which is long, really long and that is because the run is long, really long! In fact I have to confess that this might be my favourite run anywhere… so far. It is wide but varied and long. Honestly even if this had been the only run in the ski resort I would have been happy. After lunch, we made our way further up with the second cable car to Sassio del Boggìa, and went down the red runs there and decided to go all the way down to the bottom cable again. Another long run, with only one hiccup in the village of Nante, where you have to take your skis off and walk for 20 metres, and then it was back up again.
This resort is for competent skiers as it consists of mainly red and black runs, although my 7 year old daughter, Isabelle, went down the black runs with her dad, whilst I had a Kaffee Fertig in the sun, meaning that the black runs probably aren’t that difficult.
The only downside is that the sun was gone by 14.30 on that side of the valley, making it the kind of ski resort you want to get to early for maximum sun exposure, but it will be getting better as the weeks go by.
The three of us all agreed that this was a great ski resort, with not many people there as apart from the village of Nante there is no resort to speak of; it is a great place to go when the fog is too high for most resorts north of the alps, and as long as you listen to the traffic it’s a real doddle to get to.
