Valentine’s Day, celebrated on the 14th February, has gained popularity globally as a day of love. Whilst in some countries, such as the U.S., it has developed a reasonably large commercial and cultural meaning, in countries like Switzerland it is a more subtle celebration. Either way, it is a nice opportunity to express your appreciation to those close to you. Whether you are planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special someone, or with a loved relative or friend, we want to share 5 ideas of how you could spend your Valentine’s Day in Lucerne.
1- Spend Valentine’s Day on Lake Lucerne
Vier Waldstättersee, Lake Lucerne, is offering a special ‘Valentinsschiff’ – Valentine’s Day boat. From 6.30pm you will set sail on Lake Lucerne to enjoy a candlelit dinner with stunning views of the city. The boat trip will last 3 hours and include a 3-course dinner menu. If you would like to celebrate with a group, they also accept reservations of up to 10 people. You can book online here.
2- Enjoy a special Valentine menu in a romantic setting
If you would rather celebrate Valentine’s Day with a view over the lake, rather than on it, consider dining at one of the many restaurants in Lucerne offering Valentine meals. The Grand Hotel National, one of Lucerne’s iconic hotels, is offering a special Valentine menu served in an elegant and cozy atmosphere. Enjoy a dinner at Juliette’s from 299 CHF for two people – check the offer and book in advance here.
Hotel Seeburg and the Art Deco Hotel Montana are also offering Valentine packages, including dinner and an overnights stay. Check their websites for the full details.
3- Indulge in Bachmann’s Valentine’s Sweet treats
If something a little more low-key is your thing, then why not stay and home and arrange a cozy, home-cooked meal? Just make sure you pick-up one of Bachmann’s Valentine’s Day sweet treats for dessert! The traditional Lucerne based bakery is offering a range of goods, from boxed chocolates to personalised cakes and desserts. Be sure to order in-store or online before it’s too late! You can find their offering online here.
4- Groove to some live music at Stadtkeller
Spinning Wheel, a soulful, funky band will be playing live at Stadtkeller from 8.30pm on Friday 14th. Tickets are 33 CHF and can be reserved online here. The venue is located in the heart of Lucerne’s old town and is set to be a fun, upbeat and funky evening!
5- Experience night sledding on Mount Rigi
If you’re looking for an evening filled with exhilaration, you must try ‘night sledding’ at the Gratalp Skilift on Rigi Kaltbad. The clue is in the name – experience sledding on Mount Rigi on Valentine’s evening. Weather dependent of course. There is a 10 CHF- charge for non-members and make sure to check the website for more information. Mount Rigi is easily accessible from Lucerne, by boat, car or public transport.
